STEPS IN PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY FTTH
BROADBAND PROJECT
-The project design has the County broken into eight areas.
-Each area requires a site acquisition or lease of property in a centralized location for placement
of FTTH equipment.
-This includes surveying, zoning applications, site preparation, etc.
-During the design phase,
-RSN determines pedestal locations, fiber sizing by number of homes and cost efficiency while
future proofing our network for the growth of Pittsylvania County.
-After the design Phase
-RSN orders the necessary material and equipment to meet the design criteria for the FTTH
construction.
-RSN has acquired a material yard site for storing the construction material.
-The material yard requires surveying, site preparation, and obtaining equipment for
material handling.
-After field surveying are completed the drafting of each area is required to provide installation
instructions to the construction crews.
-From these design documents the Department of Transportation permits are compiled and
submitted for approval by the DOT for projected fiber placement.

CONSTRUCTION STEPS & TIMELINE FOR THE
PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY FTTH BROADBAND PROJECT
-DOT encroachment permits to be ready for submission within 4 weeks for 2 of the 8 areas
-Approval should be in hand late Nov. –first of Dec.
-Construction start first quarter 23’, if not before year end
-Main Contractor(s) are working to complete their current routes by end of year
-If cable shipments are delayed, we’ll begin placing conduit and blow cable in later
-Complete site acquisitions 2nd quarter 23’
-Materials
-Cable shipments should start arriving to yard mid December
-We have/are redirecting existing cable orders to Pitts yard
-+-450 peds will be moved from an existing projects to Pitts yard
-Additional orders to yard first of 2nd quarter
-Some minor materials have shipped and additional orders to follow as project continues
-PON cabinets should be arriving end of 1st quarter

-First Tuesday of each month WP PDC and RSN will be holding a project update call attended by;
-WP PDC Executive Director
-WP PDC Grant Administrator
-RSN’s Project Coordinator
-RSN’s Project Manager
-Engineering Firm’s Project Manager
-Project Engineer
-County Representative
-When needed additional members of the RSN team will participate;
-RSN Financial Manager,
-RSN Marketing Manager,
-RSN Operations Manager
-Quarterly a member of the RSN Business Development team or higher will present project
