RESOLUTION#2022-05-03
HONORING DR. RANDOLPH DUFFER'S RETIREMENT
VIRGINIA: The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors ("Board") adopted the following Resolution at its
Business Meeting on May 17, 2022:
WHEREAS,after fifty(50)years of practicing medicine,Dr.Randolph Duffer("Duffer")walked away from
his private practice to return to his agricultural roots as he enjoys his retirement; and
WHEREAS,Duffer came to Gretna, Virginia, thirty(30)years ago with an eye to set down roots and serve those
he felt connected to through a common history and culture; and
WHEREAS,Duffer grew up on a tobacco farm in Charlotte County, Virginia,and felt a kinship with those he
served in Gretna and Pittsylvania County, Virginia("County"); and
WHEREAS, Duffer ran a private practice in family medicine—an old-fashioned-style office where patients
could see him and his nurse across the reception desk and not separated by walls and computer screens; He resisted
becoming a doctor working for a hospital corporation, in part so he could remain in charge of his time and how he
interacted with patients; and
WHEREAS,he believed in taking time with his patients and he is known for drawing on the bed paper to break
down the medical terminology into something his patients could understand; and
WHEREAS,during his time in Gretna, Duffer had several medical students rotate through his office; and
WHEREAS, Duffer's private practice will be missed by his patients —many of whom were also friends and
neighbors—as this was a staple to the Gretna community; and
WHEREAS, Duffer was an asset and a loyal member of his community and faithfully performed his duties in
a diligent and dependable manner.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board expresses its sincere appreciation to Duffer for his
dedication of time towards the medical community and congratulates him on his well-deserved retirement.
