5. NEW BUSINESS:
(a) Economic Development Consulting Proposal: Spectrum Group
The Institute for Advanced Learning (IALR) has approached the County, City
and DRF to jointly fund a consulting proposal to secure Department of Defense
interest in IALR’s Advanced Manufacturing training programs (Attach. #1). The
annual cost is $88,200 per partner, for an annual cost of $352,800 (Attach. #2). The
City/County contract with Tom Loehr has been discontinued to provide funding
toward this endeavor. An additional $14,100 must be redirected in the current Fiscal
Year budget to satisfy the expense through June 20, 2020, which could be
appropriated from contingency.
(b) Regional Strategic Plan Update
DRF, Danville and Pittsylvania County are jointly working on a Regional
Economic Development Strategic Plan. Mr. Smitherman will provide an update on
progress.
