RESOLUTION OFAPPI'zECL4T1ON

WHEREAS, Charles Robert Hawkins has served the citizens of Pittsylvania
County as a member of the General Assembly since 1982, serving in both the House of
Delegates and the Senate, and
WHEREAS, Charles Robert Hawkins is a .life long resident of Pittsylvania
County graduating from Chatham Hfgh Schood and attending the University of Virginia
before returning to Pittsylvania County to make his living, and
WHEREAS, Charles Robert Hawkins has made an extended effort to assist the
Board of Supervisors and the.. citizens of Pittsylvania County as the 'Chairman of the
Tobacco Indemraification and Community Revitalization Commission by working to
provide substantial funding to help transition the county from its .traditional dependence
on the tobacco industry, and
WHEREAS,' Charles Robert Hawkins has announced 'his retirement from the
Senate in 2007, then
BEIT HEREBYRESOLVED that the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors
expresses its sincere appreciation and that of the citizens of Pittsylvania County for the
outstanding service that Charles Robert Hawkins has provided to this community as a
member of the General Assembly in the House of Delegates from 1982 to 1991 and in the
Senate from 1992 to 2007, further evidenced by the numerous awards that he has
received including Legislator of the Year and Distinguished Friends of Agriculture
.Awards as well as special awards from the Virginia Tobacco Growers Association, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to the
Honorable Charles R. Hawkins.
