Nellie Adams - 100 Years OldPITTSYLVANIA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
RESOLUTION
2007-01-03
WHEREAS, Nellie Adams was born in North Carolina on September 17, 1906; and
WHEREAS, in 1927 Nellie Adams received her degree in education graduating from
James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Nellie Adams moved to Hurt, Virginia and began her teaching career
with the Pittsylvania County Schooi`System at the Spring Garden'~lementary School; and
WHEREAS, Nellie Adams also worked in the Renan School Cafeteria, as well as,
the Spring Garden Elementary School Cafeteria; and
WHEREAS, she is an active member of the Altavista Presbyterian Church enjoying the
singing and fellowship of her faith; and
WHEREAS, Nellie Adams was married to the late Oscar Newman Adams and has
been blessed -with a son and a daughter, and five stepchildren; and
WHEREAS, Nellie.. Adams, as she states "does not look or feel like 100 years old"
attributes her longevity to her faith in God,. her dedication to ,her church; and her .love and
devotion to her family, friends and community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED, that the Pittsylvania County
Board of Supervisors expresses their sincere` congratulations to Nellie Adams as she reached
100 years of age on September 17, 2006; then
BE IT FURTHER .:RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors directs the
Honorable M. Kate Berger, the Callands-Gretna District Supervisor, present this resolution to
Nellie Adams at the Gretna Health Care Center on the behalf of the, Pnsylvania County Board
of Supervisors.
