2009-10-04 Truck Restriction - Blue Ridge Drive PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS RESOLUTION 2009-10-04 VIRGINIA: At the regular meeting of the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors held in the General District Courtroom of the Edwin R. Shields Courthouse Addition on Monday, October 5, 2009, the following resolution was presented and adopted: WHEREAS, numerous citizens have complained to the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors about heavy truck traffic, particularly wood chip trucks, using Rockford School Road, Blue Ridge Drive and Prospect Road in Pittsylvania County to gain access to the Dominion Power Plant at Hurt; and WHEREAS, the citizens have requested that the Board of Supervisors consider "No Thru Truck" signs on these roads in order to improve the safety and welfare of the community, protect the children and school buses on the road and reduce the potential of serious accidents on these secondary roads; and WHEREAS, the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors has held two separate public hearings to receive citizen input on the consideration of No Thru Trucks from Rockford School Road to Blue Ridge Drive and Prospect Road with an alternate utilizing U. S. Route 29; and WHEREAS, the Board held public hearings, in accordance with Section 46.2-809 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, and received the required citizen input and has recommended alternates to the Commonwealth of Virginia; then BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED, that the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors, requests the Virginia Department of Transportation to place truck restrictions and "No Thru Truck" traffic signs on Rockford School Road (State Route 665), Blue Ridge Drive (State Route 634) and Prospect Road (State Route T-634) in Pittsylvania County with a primary alternate of using U.S. Route 29 to the northernmost exit of the Town of Altavista at State Route 712 and Business 29, following Business 29 South through the Town of Altavista to Pittsylvania Avenue then East on State Route 668. A secondary alternate route is recommended to utilize U. S. Route 29 to State Route 43 East to the Town of Altavista, North on 7`" Street to Pittsylvania Avenue East to State Route 668; restriction should be on any truck or truck and trailer or semi-trailer combination, except pickup or panel trucks, or solid waste trucks performing their duties; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the Lynchburg District Office of the Virginia Department of Transportation and to Dominion Power. ~ ~ M ~ ~ Given under my hand this St" day of October, 200 ~ ~ _ William D. Box 309 Chatham, VA 24531 Re: Truck Restriction -Blue Ridge Drive Dear Mr. Hamilton: Attached hereto, you will find a resolution passed by the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors at their regular meeting on October 5, 2009 requesting the Virginia Department of Transportation to place No Thru Truck signs on Rockford School Road off of its entrance on Route 40 and Rockford School Road off of its entrance on U S Route 29. In addition, signs on Blue Ridge Drive and on Prospect Road to ensure that there are no thru trucks from Rockford School Road to Blue Ridge Drive and Prospect Road to the power plant in Hurt, Virginia. The Board of Supervisors has held two public hearings and reviewed three alternates to try to get to the Power Plant. The Board is recommending the primary alternate as the same alternate that the Town Council of the Town of Altavista has proposed; the northernmost exit coming off of State Route 712 and Business 29, taking Business 29 South through the Town of Altavista to Pittsylvania Avenue East to State Route 668.
