RESOLUTION
2010-01-03
VIRGINIA: At the adjourned meeting of the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors held in
the General District Courtroom of the Edwin R. Shields Courthouse Addition in Chatham,
Virginia on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, the following resolution was presented and adopted:
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of Pittsylvania County worked diligently with
representatives of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Virginia Department of Corrections to
develop the necessary utilities for water, sewer, and electricity to be located off Beverly Heights
Road, west of the Town of Chatham, in order to facilitate the construction and development of a
new state prison; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia has worked out a contract with the State of
Pennsylvania in order to transfer over 1000 prisoners from the State of Pennsylvania on a
temporary basis to Green Rock Prison in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, causing the dislocation
of the current inmates of the Green Rock; then
BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED, that the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors
respectfully request that the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Virginia Department of
Corrections to allow prisoners with the local addresses of Pittsylvania County to remain at the
Green Rock facility in order to reduce the burden of Pittsylvania County visiting inmates in that
facility and that the level of the prison stay a medium security; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the
Honorable Robert McDonnell, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Honorable
Marla Decker, Secretary of Public Safety, and Gene Johnson, Director of the Virginia
Department of Corrections.
