2011-04-09 Disaster Resolution - Ltr to Gov McDonnellPITTSYLVANIA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS RESOLUTION 2011-04-09 WHEREAS, there were extreme weather conditions throughout Pittsylvania County, Virginia on Saturday, April 16, 201 1, which have caused severe crop, pasture and hay land damage from excessive rain, flash floods, heavy winds and tornadoes; and WHEREAS, this severe weather damaged trees, destroyed crops, as well as washing away precious top soil; and WHEREAS, these conditions have caused significant financial losses to the agricultural community of Pittsylvania County; and WHEREAS, the damage to the agricultural community in Pittsylvania County cannot readily recover from these losses; then BE IT RESOLVED, that the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors hereby petitions the Honorable Robert F. McDonnell, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, to declare Pittsylvania County a Disaster Area due to extreme severe weather in order to provide the means for those affected to qualify for any available relief assistance. This resolution is requesting the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia to declare Pittsylvania County a disaster area due to extreme severe weather that occurred on Saturday, April 16, 2011. This extreme weather caused severe crop damage, pasture and hay land damage to the agricultural areas of Pittsylvania County. A number of homes received minor damages; however the agricultural community suffered greatly from the excessive rain, flash floods and heavy winds.
