2015-03-02 Susan Worley (retired),pitt .5pCbania Countp -38Aarb At *uperbiorq; RESOLUTION 2015 -03 -02 WHEREAS, Susan Worley is a native of Climax who graduated from Gretna High School and received a bachelor's degree from Averett College; and WHEREAS, a former teacher for Pittsylvania County Schools, Ms. Worley started working at the Altavista Journal in 1981 covering Pittsylvania County, including the Board of Supervisors, School Board, Gretna Town Council, and Hurt Town Council; and WHEREAS, Susan Worley joined the Chatham Star - Tribune in 1990 and has received numerous awards for news and feature writing from the Virginia Press Association; and WHEREAS, Ms. Worley is a longtime member of the Pittsylvania Historical Society, Chatham Rotary Club, and the Merchants Association of Gretna. Furthermore, Susan Worley helped organize the Gretna Christmas Parade, the Old Timers' Jubilee, and Fourth of July events for many years; and WHEREAS, Susan Worley was named Gretna's Citizen of the Year in 2007 by the Merchants Association; and WHEREAS, after 34 years of local news media service, Susan Worley will be retiring on March 19, 2015; then THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors expresses their sincere appreciation and special thanks to Ms. Susan Worley for her journalistic professionalism, dedication to service and kindness to the citizens of Pittsylvania County and the Board wishes her well in her future endeavors; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to Susan Worley at her retirement reception on March 19, 2015.
