Proclamation
AMERICAN RED CROSS MONTH
March 1-31,2016
Whereas, for more than 130 years, the devoted women and men of the American Red Cross have
responded to challenges at home and abroad with compassion and generosity. In times of
conflict and great tragedy, they deliver humanitarian relief, save lives, and offer hope for a
brighter tomorrow; and
Whereas, American Red Cross Month is a special time to recognize and thank our Everyday
Heroes -those who reach out to help people in need; and
Whereas, American Red Cross heroes assist their communities in a variety of ways, such as
donating blood or visiting injured service members; and
Whereas, across the country and around the world, the American Red Cross responds by
combating pandemics, supporting our Armed Forces, providing disaster relief and mitigation,
helping people donate blood, teaching first aid, and increasing local preparedness; and
Whereas, our communities can depend on the American Red Cross; and
Whereas, the Board of Supervisors would like to remember its heroes here in Pittsylvania
County who help people in need, tirelessly assisting their neighbors; and
Whereas, the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors dedicates the month of March to those
who support the American Red Cross mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the
face of emergencies; and
Whereas, the citizens of Pittsylvania County are encouraged, especially during this special
month, to support the humanitarian mission of the American Red Cross and help their fellow
citizens by donating their time and resources; then
Now, Therefore, as the Board of Supervisors of Pittsylvania County, we hereby proclaim March
2016 as American Red Cross Month in Pittsylvania County.
