MINUTES
The regular meeting of the Danville/Pittsylvania County local Emergency
Planning Committee was held on Thursday, December 10, 2015, 12:00 pm at C &
E’s Restaurant, Gretna, VA. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Steve
Dishman.

A motion was made by Chief Eagle, seconded by Steve Bowman, unanimously
carried to elect Jim Davis, Chairperson of the LEPC Committee for FY-2016.
Mr. Dishman asked if we had any first time visitors please introduce
themselves. Michael Leirer, Volunteer Specialist with American Red Cross and
Jordan Hyde, Danville-Pittsylvania Community Services.
A motion was made by Capt Motley, seconded by Steve Bowman, unanimously
carried to approve minutes of October 8, 2015.
CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT:
Steve Dishman advised no incidents in the city
Jim Davis has nothing to report.
SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS:
Al Smith from City of Danville advised that Patrick County got approval from
their Board and they have started a CERT Program with sixteen people enrolled.
Eddie Walker from Pittsylvania County CERT Program advised finished up with
county schools CERT Program had fifty six students graduated.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS:
Mr. Dishman would like to officially address elections. The By-Laws are written
that the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson rotate duties every year between
Chief Eagle and Jim Davis.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Mr. Clarence Monday gave the Committee an update on Pittsylvania County
Fire & Rescue Association. They sent in a request to the Board of Supervisors
asking for a study on Fire & Rescue. Request was sent to the VA Fire Services
Board and they came in July 2015 went through process and when they finished
study was sent to the Board of Supervisors. The report documents the findings
and recommendations for the Pittsylvania County Fire & EMS study. The study is

posted on the county website if you would like to read it. The Board of
Supervisors will appoint a committee to go through the report and see what can
be implementing and prioritize by the recommendations from the VA Fire
Services Board.
Mike Guzo, VA Dept of Emergency Management advised that the VA Dept of
Emer Mgnt. is under new direction. The state coordinator changing thing up
and now at this time Mike Guzo is the only representative for Region 6. We are
in hiring process for a regional planner. Will be holding a training section on
“social media for disaster” in Roanoke, January 28 & 29, 2016. Class is fee but you
need to go online to register.
Next meeting scheduled for February 11, 2016, 12:00 pm at Mary’s Diner in
Danville, VA
