10-09-2014 LEPC MinutesDANVILLE/PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY LOCAL EMERGENCY PLANNING COMMITTEE THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2014 MINUTES The regular meeting of the Danville/Pittsylvania County LEPC was held on Thursday, October 9, 2014, at 12:00 p.m. at Mary’s Diner, Danville, VA. The meeting was called to order at 12:00 by Vice-Chairperson Steve Dishman. PRESENT Steve Bowman, Fire Marshal Pitt Co Betty G. Bryant, Pitt Co Emer Management & Communications Scott Budd, Pitt Co IT Dept Paulette Dean, Danville Area Humane Society Steve Dishman, Asst Fire Chief City of Danville David Eagle, Fire Chief City of Danville Mark Gauldin, Williams Pipeline Bobbie Grogan, Southern VA Mental Health Otis Hawker, Asst Co Administrator Pitt Co Stephanie LaPrade, Southern Area Agency on Aging Tim Love, Compliance Coordinator City of Danville Leslie Mace, VA Dept of Forestry James McDaniel, Superintendent Pitt Co Schools Donald Motley, Pitt Co Sheriff’s Office Stuart Roach, Williams Pipeline Al Smith, CERT City of Danville Sheriff Mike Taylor, Pitt Co Eddie Walker, CERT Pitt Co Clarence Monday, County Administrator Pitt Co Courtney Akers, Dan-Pitt Co Community Services Amanda Furr, Dan-Pitt Co Community Services Jim Mullins, DATC John Hisghman, VA Dept of Forestry Mr. Dishman advised that Jim Davis is absent today due to the death of his father and we also was told that we loss one of our LEPC Member Mike Cholko. LEPC October 9, 2014 Page 2 A motion was made by Chief Eagle, seconded by Capt Motley and unanimously carried to send Jim Davis and Mike Cholko family a sympathy cards from LEPC Committee. Leslie Mace from Forestry Dept introduced new employee John Hisghman. Mr Hisghman will be working Pittsylvania, Halifax and Charlotte Counties. Committee Report: Eddie Walter, CERT Pittsylvania County advised they are two third the way through the program. We have forty-seven students and schedule to graduate in three weeks. This is also the first time that they have a special need student taken the class. Al Smith, CERT Danville advised they do not have any program going right now. They will be holding a CERT class at a retirement home. Mr. Smith and Averett University faculty and staff just completed a table top exercise. Working on schedule at Averett for more CERT programs. HAZ MAT REPORT: Steve Dishman advised he has not had any major calls. They are processing thought a current grant cycle updating or replacing some equipment. Also just this week received another grant in the amount of $30,000.00 for updating Haz Mat equipment. OTHER UPDATES: Steve Dishman advised that the county is in the process of updating their Emergency Operation Plan. Danville Plan is waiting for adoption by City Council. One of the things that the City will be doing is going to the different department reviewing each section with them and making sure they understand their rolls and responsibility Steward Roach, Williams Pipeline gave an update on the construction activity they currently in Pittsylvania, Halifax, Charlotte, Mecklenburg and Brunswick Counties. Virginia Southside project has expanding transmission system with one hundred miles of transmission lines out of Chatham to Martinsville in support of Dominion Power Plant. Mr. Roach discussed the project more and if anyone has any additional questions please see him or Mark they will be glad to answer any questions LEPC October 9, 2014 Page 3 Jim Mullins, Danville LSC advised cold and flu seasons is here. Good prevention Is flu shot and be sure to wash your hands. If you do get sick and don’t feel better within seven days see your doctor. Next meeting THURSDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2014, 12:00 P.M.
