Call to Order – Mr. Joe Williams II. Roll Call – Mr. Fred Wydner III. Items for Discussion 1. Farmer’s Market – Still running with 4 to 6 vendors weekly 2. Agribusiness Council a. October 24th, 2:00 pm, ODAC – Town Hall Meeting with an Ice Cream Social with the State Transportation Secretary, State Ag Secretary, and our local delegates to discuss farm transportation issues 3. Purchase of Development Rights (PDR) – The Legislative Committee will be entertaining presentations from the Sec. of Agriculture, VDACS Farmland Preservation Specialist, and surrounding counties on October 24th right after the Town Hall meeting to introduce this farm preservation technique. 4. Setbacks – First of what proves to be a series of meetings with the Legislative Committee on October 2nd. The idea was introduced and staff was directed to research and present options back to the committee early next year. 5. McPherson Feeders – Allen Sents, President and CEO, visited the area in late September. The Office covered his lodging and hosted a dinner at J. T.’s for him and several cattle producers. Likes the cattle and purchased a local load steers. The Office will be planning another visit for the spring to KS and OK feedlots, let me know if you are interested. 6. Danville Regional Foundation Grant Application – Agricultural Impact Study. UVA’s Weldon-Cooper Center will be performing this analysis to include the use of IMPLAN and discussion meetings here in the county. AFID – The County has identified a prospective forestry project in which to apply for these funds. It is now incumbent upon the county to find the matching or in-kind funds to meet the matching portion of this fund. 8. Rain Gauge discussion – In order to help quantify with greater accuracy the amount of rainfall for FSA disaster qualifications, the Farm Bureau is developing a local project to offset the expense of sophisticated rain gauges to be placed on 12 farms in the county. This is a project that the ADB office should consider partnering with the FB. Details forthcoming. 9. Pittco Beekeepers a. Waiting on more details regarding the awarded USDA Specialty Crop Grant b. Beginning Beekeepers Class – VCE offered a program with the Pittco Beekeepers for interested parties who might want to delve into beekeeping. Huge success with a total of 69 registered attendees. 10. Nominating Committee – Board needs to elect 3 individuals, including the chairman, to formulate a Nominating Committee. We will meet to draft a slate of candidates for the upcoming year. This will be scheduled before our November ADB meeting so that the board can approve the nominees. This slate will then be sent to the BOS for their approval. 11. Halloween Bull Bash – October 27th, 7:00 pm. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door 12. Private Property Rights – Vote Yes on Question 1, DO NOT FORGET TO VOTE ON NOVEMBER 6TH! 13.
