The Library Board of Trustees met on November 13, 2023. Library board members present
included Alice Shelton, Karen Eades, Janice Fitts, Portia Fitzgerald, Sandy Mitchell, Shelby
Buffington, Debra Turner, David Law, and Rhonda Griffin.
Karen Eades, Chair, called the Library Board meeting to order at 3:05 pm.
The consent agenda containing the minutes of the January 8, 2024 Library Board meeting, the
agenda without amendment and the financial and operations reports for December and January
2024 were approved on a motion by David Law, seconded by Portia Fitzgerald. Approve
unanimously.
Action Items:
Green Rock Correctional Center requested an Inter Library Loan (ILL) agreement with
Pittsylvania County Public Library. A policy from Green Rock Correctional Center was
presented to the Library Board. The Board unanimously approved the agreement on a motion
made by Sandy Mitchell, seconded by David Law.
Rhonda Griffin informed the Library Board of minor renovations that are scheduled at the
Chatham Library. Once the renovations are complete, carpet is scheduled to be installed. The
carpet installers will move the empty shelves, staff will need to box up materials, and
maintenance will be asked to move furniture. The Library Board recommended closing the
library to the public for two weeks during installation.
The second reading of the DVD policy, changing the check-out time from 3-days to 1-week was
approved on a motion by Debra Turner, seconded by Alice Shelton, and passed unanimously.
Information Items:
Rhonda reminded the Board of the upcoming staff training provided by the Danville Regional
Foundation for local libraries and museums. The training is scheduled for February 20th. All
library branches will be closed that day.
Rhonda reviewed the presentation provided for the new Board of Supervisors’ Orientation that
was held in December 2023.
Budget requests were discussed, which included funding for a deposit for a Bookmobile, which
is close to 20 years old. Rhonda also informed the Board of the 17% increase in State Aid, which
was primarily added to the book budget.
Rhonda informed the board of a meeting with Kentuck Church regarding the library feasibility
study and the potential of expanding library services into the Dan River District.
The meeting adjourned at 4:06 pm.
The Executive Committee Meeting will be held virtually, March 11, 2024 at 3:00pm.
Next full board meeting was scheduled for April 15th at 3:00 pm at the Brosville Library.
