NEW BUSINESS
a. School Division's Presentation/Discussion
Dr. Mark Jones, Superintendent of Pittsylvania County Schools, discussed expanding middle school
sports programs, including potential new fields for baseball, softball, and football. Dr. Mark Jones
presented various construction plans, estimating a high-end cost of $12.5 million. The board also
considered a sports complex to accommodate multiple sports and community events, with potential
economic benefits. They reviewed the use of sales tax referendum funds, totaling $65 million over
20 years, for school improvements like roofs, HVAC, and security vestibules. Concerns about air
conditioning in school buses and the impact of a data center on local water resources were also
raised, but there was clarification that the data center will use city water, which should not affect
local wells.
ADJOURNMENT
Dalton adjourned the Meeting at 3:43 PM.
