VIRGINIA: AT THE ADJOURNED MEETING OF THE PITTSYLVANIA
COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IN THE GENERAL DISTRICT
COURTROOM IN CHATHAM, VIRGIl~TIA ON TUESDAY, JUNE 19, 2007, THE
FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS PRESENTED AND ADOPTED:
WHEREAS, the Danville (Pittsylvania County) Unified Work Program for
Fiscal Year 2008 included provision for the initiation of the development of a U.S.
Route 29 access management study for a segment running from Route 726 up to Route
718 (Dry Fork Road), the northern boundary of the MPO Study Area; and
WHEREAS, Pittsylvania County desires that the study of Route 29 continue
north to the vicinity of the interchange of U.S. Route 29 and U.S. Route 29 Business
South of Chatham that includes the Tightsqueeze area in order to address completely
the Route 29 corridor .areas where continuing commercial-industrial growth is
occurring; and
WHEREAS, the studies of urban and rural (outside MPO area) segments have
to be funded by separate streams of funds; and
WHEREAS, the work will best be carried out through employment of a
qualified and experienced private transportation oriented consultant firm; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Transportation's Lynchburg District
Planning Manager has advised of and recommended use of VDOT's On-Call
Consultation Services funding program (eligible for use in ruraUnon-MPO areas) for
completing Route 29 corridor access management study;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Pittsylvania County Board
of Supervisors authorize the West Piedmont Planning District Commission's Executive
Director to proceed to make application for funds from the Virginia Department of
Transportation from its On-Call Consultant Services program and to execute any
necessary requests, agreements, or contracts necessary for obtaining needed assistance
in the development of the access management studies for the U.S. Route 29 segment in
Pittsylvania County lying in the rural area outside but adjacent to a segment within the
Danville MPO study area and generally described as a segment between Dry Fork Road
(Route 718) and the interchange of U.S. Route 29 and U.S. Route 29 Business South of
Chatham;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Pittsylvania County Board of
Supervisors supports the referenced project as an advancement on regional
transportation planning and should assist improvement in mobility and safety of
transportation locally and regionally.
