Re: Watch for Children Signs
Dear Mr. Hamilton:
Attached hereto, you will find a Resolution passed by the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors at its
regular meeting on June 7, 2010. This resolution is requesting the installation of a Watch for Children
Sign on Hodnett Mill Road, State Route 802 in the Staunton River District of Pittsylvania County.
With the current change and VDOT requirements, I am not sure if this resolution goes straight to your
office or to Joe Barkley in Halifax; therefore, I am sending copies to both localities concerning this Watch
for Children Sign.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office.
Sincerely,.

SUBJECT: Route 802 - Pittsvhania Coimtv
"V1'ATCH FOR CHILUREN° Sign
Dear Mr. Sleeper:
This is in Purther reference to your earlier correspoi~dence reyuesting a"bt'ATCH FOR
CHILDREN" sign on Route 80? in Pittsylvania County.
A Traffic Engineering Review was conducted ou Route 802, Hodnetts Mill Road, in Pittsylvania
County to detennine if die noted sign is warranted.
The review was conducted from 464 Hodnetts Mill Road to 1793 Hodnetts Mill Road, a distance
of approximately I? miles. Roadside dcvelopment alo~g this section of roadway consists of
eight scattered residential dwellings, most uf ~vhich are located a substantial distance from thc
roadu~ay. Vertical alignment is considered fair while horizontal alignment is considered poor.
Based on these findings, the installation of the requcsted signs along this section of roadway
would not provide pedestrians with the desired safety enhancement: theretbre, the request is
denied.
I appreciate tlie Board's ii~terest in the safery of our road~vays in Pittsylvania County and
apologize for not being able to accede to your request.
