RESOLUTION
2010-O1-01
WHEREAS, the Pittsylvania County has suffered a loss of textile industries and
furniture manufacturing industries over the past several years that has created a severe economic
hardship for the citizens of Pittsylvania County; and
WHEREAS, the negative impacts of the current economic downturn have been
especially difficult for the Hurt community with the closing of the Burlington Industries-
Klopman Mills Plant in Hurt, which was the County's largest employer at one time; and
WHEREAS, Matrix Technology Alliance Incorporated is in the process of acquiring the
former Burlington Industries-Klopman Mills Plant in Hurt, Virginia, from The International
Textile Group for the purpose of creating and manufacturing substantial employment from
environmentally friendly technologies ; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of Pittsylvania County supports the economic
improvements of any areas of the County, particularly in the Hurt community; then
BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of Pittsylvania County,
as a local governing body, supports the efforts of Matrix Technology Alliance Incorporated in
their efforts to develop substantial employment at the Burlington Industries-Klopman Mill Plant
in Hurt through environmentally friendly technologies; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors
will offer what assistance they can supporting applications made by the Matrix Technology
Alliance Incorporated, for public and private funds, to finance environmental assessments,
environmental cleanups and renovations of the Burlington Industries-Klopman Mills Plant to
sustain the employment necessary to develop the environmentally friendly products promoted
by Matrix Technology Alliance Incorporated.
