RESOLUTION HONORING H. DARREL SHELTON
VIRGINIA: At its Business Meeting on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, the Pittsylvania County Board of
Supervisors("Board") adopted the following Resolution:
WHEREAS, the Pittsylvania County Public Library was established in 1939, by the Board with the
assistance of the County School Board,local Federation of Women's Clubs,the Rotary Club,the Chatham Library
Association, and the donation of a building and books by Mr. and Mrs. David K. Bruce; and
WHEREAS, the PPL Foundation were established in 1983, and received IRS 501(C)3 status effective
June 1, 1984, for the purpose of supporting and raising funds for the Library; and
WHEREAS, in the Spring of 1988, the Friends of the Library formally organized under the auspices of
the PPL Foundation for the purpose of promoting the Library and its services; and
WHEREAS, the County Public Library and the County have since 1983 been greatly supported by the
PPL Foundation in Library expansion by adding,renovating, or replacing the Brosville/Cascade, Gretna, and Mt.
Hermon Library branches; in purchasing, maintaining, and replacing Bookmobiles to extend Library services to
County Schools and remote County communities; and in making other major renovations and repairs; and
WHEREAS, H. Darrel Shelton ("Shelton") has served as PPL Foundation Treasurer since July 2, 1991,
and has been instrumental to the success of the PPL Foundation and the County Public Library; and
WHEREAS, Shelton has also contributed personal financial and labor support over the years to the
success of the PPL Foundation, Friends of the Library, and the County Public Library.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,that the Board recognizes the invaluable contributions made
by Shelton and other volunteers in support of community services and organizations throughout the County; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the Board extends its appreciation to Shelton for thirty (30) years of
volunteer service as PPL Foundation Treasurer and his dedication to the County Public Library and the County.
