RESOLUTION # 2021-05-02
RESOLUTION HONORING FLOURNEY A. KEATTS
VIRGINIA: At its Business Meeting on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors
("Board")adopted the following Resolution:
WHEREAS,Flournoy A.Keatts("Keatts"), son of Flournoy Edward and Emma Keatts of the Axton Community,
was born on April 15, 1924,in Pittsylvania County,Virginia("County"); and
WHEREAS,Keatts was a graduate of Brosville High School; and
WHEREAS, he married the late Nina Yeatts Keatts and was married for sixty-two (62) years, and during their
marriage,they had three(3)children,Pam, Sherry,and Barry; and
WHEREAS,Keatts worked for Dan River Mills for ten(10)years before becoming a dairy farmer and he owned
and operated Keatts Dairy for sixty-five(65)years; and
WHEREAS,he was a lifelong member of Sugartree Primitive Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS,Keatts was an active hunter and fisherman and passionate about wildlife conservation; he once built
a pond just for ducks; and
WHEREAS, Keatts served on the Soil and Conservation Board, the Piedmont Planning Commission, was a
member of the Young Farmers Association,and was a lifetime member of the Farm Bureau; and
WHEREAS,he ran for the Board and won the Tunstall District Seat in 1971, where he served for thirty-two(32)
years and Chaired many Committees; and
WHEREAS,Keatts was affectionately known as the"Watchdog of the Treasury;"and
WHEREAS,he died in Danville,Virginia, at the age of ninety-six(96).
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,that the Board expresses its sincere regret and grief over the loss of
such a faithful and loyal member of the County and a devoted former member of the Board; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the Board expresses its gratitude for Keatts' life and service and expresses its
condolences to his family;and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Board directs that a copy of this Resolution be given to Keatts' family.
