MINUTES
The regular meeting of the Pittsylvania County LEPC was held on Thursday, April 9, 2015,
12:00 p.m. at C&E’s Restaurant, Gretna, VA. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson
Steve Dishman.

Mr. Dishman asked if we had any first time guest. Sgt Whitt Hamick, VA State Police
introduced himself.
A motion was made by Barry Dunkley, seconded by Tim Love, unanimous carried to approve
the minutes of February 12, 2015.
Chairperson’s Report: Mr. Dishman gave report on Danville’s Tabletop Exercise of
Emergency Operations Plan. Had approximately forty-nine people to attend the exercise. Very
successfully, a lot of general information was passed on.
Barry Dunkley, Director of Water & Wastewater City of Danville gave report on the City’s
water. First of February 2015 notice a foul smell and taste coming from the water. The water
at the plant is tested several times a day, every day. But algae bloom was the cause of one of
the problem. Mr. Dunkley discussed the problems and what is being done.

Subcommittee Reports: Al Smith, Danville CERT, advised they had a Sky Warning Class last
week at Averett University. He will be having another CERT class at the end of this month at
Averett University.
Ed Walker, Pittsylvania County Cert, advised they graduated forty seven students from the
county CERT program. County CERT Team has been asked by American Red Cross to help with
Relay-For-Life coming up in May.
Hazmat Report: Mr. Dishman has nothing to report.

Barry Dudley asked the question on caring hand guns. He would like to know where can
people carry and cannot carry guns? Sheriff Mike Taylor advised that if you post a sign and that
is the quickies way. If you have a concealed weapons permit they are still to comply with the
posted notice. Sheriff Taylor said just the county did about 1,900 concealed weapon
applications last year.
Tim Love, City of Danville-Utilities report that he sent out in November 2014 to all elected &
emergency officials within Pittsylvania County and the City of Danville a package with a
questionnaire. Forty-two packages sent out and he has only received six back. This
questionnaire is a requirement from the federal government and if you would please check and
send your package back in.
