Following a moment of silence everyone had an opportunity to go through the buffet line. The meeting reconvened at 12:30 and Chief Eagle welcomed visitor Tim Love, the Compliance Coordinator for Danville Water & Gas Division and Dr. Matthew Arroyo the new director of the Pittsylvania/Danville Department of Health. Chief Eagle requested everyone to initial the signup sheet and to indicate if he or she was the primary contact for their business or agency. T his is important as the names of the primary contacts are needed to register the committee members with the State.  The minutes were approved following a motion by Steve Bowman and seconded by Dan Sleeper.  Chairperson report: Chief Eagle reported that modifications in the bylaws have not been finalized, but once completed the members will be given the opportunity to discuss them at a future meeting prior to voting. He also reported that county and city industries have submitted the required SARA Title III annual Tier II reports.  Vice chairperson report: Steve Bowman stated he did not have anything new to report.  Sub-committee:  CERT reports Danville—In the absence of Al Smith, Steve Dishman reported that 14 students are in the DCC CERT class and that for the first time CERT classes will be at Averett University, planned to be scheduled for the end of May. Pittsylvania County—Eddie Walker reported 29 students had completed the CERT classes at the Pittsylvania County Vocational Technical Center. He also reported he had attended the Virginia Emergency Management Symposium held in March.  Assistant Chief Dishman reported that haz-mat members have received training and that the recently acquired equipment has been placed in service. The haz-mat team is also purchasing some additional radios that are P25 compliant.  Presentation/Discussion topics: Brian Thurman of Virginia Department of Emergency Management reported on the planned exercise scheduled for May 14, 15, & 16th sponsored by EPA. The drill will be centered on hazardous materials. Participants will include Danville Police Department, Virginia State Police, BCI bomb technicians, Red Cross, and others. The funding from the EPA will provide simulations for real life training, such as dealing with labs, chemical suicides, and so forth. Members were advised they could participate as victims or observe. It was noted that the Industrial Development Authority has approved use of the old Durham Hosiery building on Lynn Street in Danville.  Unfinished business: None  New business: Jim Davis reported that a drill was being planned to be conducted at an undisclosed location, and the details would be reported later.  Jim Davis reported that Stan Crigger, VDEM’s regional coordinator for the area is extremely ill. The chairman was appointed to sign and send a card on behalf of the LEPC.  Next meeting will be held at Mary’s Diner in Danville on June 13th.  Adjournment. Following a motion from Dan Sleeper and seconded by Otis Hawker the meeting was adjourned at 12:50 pm.
