Steve Bowman noted that all Tier Two reports are in for the County. City reports are also
complete. Thanks to all who submitted their reports.
Steve Dishman presented for City CERT, and he stated that the City is in the process of finishing
up classes with Galileo for TEEN CERT. CERT is also continuing to purchase equipment through remaining grant funds.
LEPC Meeting Minutes April 12, 2012 C&E’s – 12:00 pm
Jim Davis reported for the County CERT. TEEN CERT has received eBook readers at Tunstall High School in the place of printing manuals. This will save on costs in the long run. Mr. Davis
also noted that all Citizen Corp grant funding has ceased. We will still be able to use the funds we have, but will not be able to submit for any other Citizen Corp grants. There is also a new Fire
Simulator used for training purposes, which is much like a Wii game. This will help greatly when training in the field. There was a Sky Warn class that was put on by the National Weather
Service for free. It was the biggest class in quite a long time.
Steve Dishman reported for the Haz-Mat team. They have not had any significant call-outs,
except for the milk spill in the past few months. They will be working over the next several months on grant funding and training. The team will be going to Miller Brewery Company for
training in conjunction with the Greensboro Haz-Mat team for a joint exercise.
Barry Dunkley came to report on the Boil Water Notice. What was taken away from the meeting
was that this incident highly impacted a large number of people and restaurants. The notice itself was a precautionary effort to let people know that the water “could” be contaminated, but it was
never official that the water was bad or not. However, our community view water as either bad or good, so the notice was good for the purposes of letting the public know that the water could be
bad. The hospital was the first to respond to the incident and asks that our communications improve. We can never improve enough on communications and we need to get more
businesses involved.
Next Meeting: June 14, 2012
12:00pm Mary’s Diner – Danville, VA
Chief Eagle then asked if there was any other discussion for the good of the meeting and adjourned the meeting, at approximately 1:00 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Kelley G. Satterfield
Senior Secretary, Danville Emergency Management
