Summary of Meeting:
Chairman, David Eagle, welcomed everyone to the meeting and asked if there were any new members. The meeting started approximately at 12:30 pm, after everyone had the chance to go
through the lunch buffet line.
Chief Eagle then asked for the approval of the last meeting’s minutes, and they were approved
with the appropriate motions.
The Danville Fire Department did not have anything new to report, but briefly discussed the
restructuring of the department. Asst. Chief, Steve Dishman, introduced himself and he is taking over the Emergency Management while Bernard Brown will still manage the 911 Center. Also,
Scott McNeely retired and Chief Dishman will be overseeing HazMat operations now that McNeely is no longer with the City.
Asst. Fire Marshal, Richie Guill, was present to report for HazMat. There have been eleven HazMat calls within the last several months. Most of the calls were hydro-carbon related issues,

and five of the calls were on a larger scale. There have been two fuel spills; one of which occurred because of a hydraulic pump malfunction. Other incidents were because of propane
leaks and accidental children behavior. All environmental issues and crimes have been handled and followed more closely.
Deputy Chief of Police, Dean Hairston, was present to report for the Danville Police Department. He spoke of the new link we have between our communications system and the North Carolina’s
tactical Viper system. This is the first radio connection between Virginia and North Carolina. With this connection, we can connect to any entity in the state of North Carolina. I-Pics are also
up and going. This is where any network that is connected can create a virtual connection and since it is IP based, you can connect anywhere.
Chief Dishman reported for Danville CERT, since Al Smith was not in attendance. Danville CERT just did training of DCC personnel. DCC is now requiring that all security employees take CERT
training, and 16 people were in attendance for this particular training. TEEN CERT started on February 13th at Galileo High School from 3:30pm to 5pm after school. There are 23 students
enrolled in this class, and it is expected to run until April 5th. Using the Citizens Corp grant funding, CERT and Neighborhood Watch program has been able to purchase training material
and equipment, totaling $9,800.00. o Pittsylvania County CERT is working hard to line up next year’s equipment and literature.
Ten of their members attended a Red Cross function, to support Red Cross’ efforts in Emergency Management.
Jim Davis brought up that most people do not have an Earthquake Insurance rider with their Homeowner’s Insurance, and urged everyone to get it. Even though we are not in a typical
Earthquake area, the insurance will help when we have circumstances like we had this past year.
Reminder: Tier Two reports are due by March 1, 2012.
Next Meeting: April 12, 2012 12:00pm
C&E’s Restaurant – Gretna, VA
Chief Eagle then asked if there was any other discussion for the good of the meeting and
adjourned the meeting, at approximately 1:00 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Kelley G. Satterfield Senior Secretary, Danville Emergency Services
