Joint Meeting
VIRGINIA: A Joint M eeting of the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors and the
Danville City Council was held on Monday, June 30, 2015 at the Olde Dominion Agricultural
Complex in Chatham, Virginia. Ms. Brenda H. Bowman , Chair for the Board of Superv isors
opened the meeting at 6:00pm.
James H. Snead Dan River District
Elton W. Blackstock Staunton River District
Coy E. Harville Westover District
Tim R. Barber Tunstall District
Jerry A. Hagerman Callands-Gretna District
Mr. Jessie L. Barksdale, Banister District, arrived at 6:30pm.
Mr. Clarence C. Monday , County Administrator , Mr. Greg L. Sides, Assistant County
Administrator for Planning and Development , Mr. J. Vaden Hunt, County Attorney, and Ms.
Rebecca Flippen, Deputy Clerk to the Board, were also present.
Motion was made by Mr. Snead , seconded by Mr. Barber , to approve the agenda, which
was unanimously approved by the Board with the exception of Mr. Barksdale who was absent
at the time of the motion.
Mayor Sherman Saunders called the Danville City Council to order at 6: 00 pm. The
following Council Members were present:

BRIEFING ON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN COUNTY AND CITY
Greg Sides, Assistant County Administrator for Planning & Development for
Pittsylvania County and Telly Tucker, Director of Economic Devel opment for the City of
Danville, which was very similar to the presentation Mr. Sides and Mr. Tucker give to
prospective business and industries interested in locating in the Pittsylvania County-Danville
Region. The presentation included industry history of the area; local workforce;

industries/business’ currently located in the area, which include several international
companies; shovel ready sites, solid infrastructure and current available sites and buildings;
available advanced education (proximity to major universities, 1 st region in the U.S. to
participate in ACT’s Certified Work Ready Program , the Precision Machining Technology vis
High School Dual Enrollment Programs partnered with Danville Community College, RCATT
and NIMS, Capstone, and the STEM Academy).
BRIEFING IN REGIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Mr. Steve Bridges, Executive Director for Southern Virginia Regional Alliance
(SVRA) gave a presentation to the Board of Supervisors and City Council about SVRA and its
role in providing support and recruiting prospects to the area. Mr. Bridges stated the mission
of the Southern Virginia Regional Alliance is to accelerate the job growth and increase the tax
base for the counties of Halifax, Henry, Patrick and Pittsylvania, as well as the cities of
Danville and Martinsville. The SVRA is responsible for marketing the region globally as a
great place to live, work and play. The SVRA will have a coherent message inclusive of all
regional data and will be solely focused on the recruitment of new industries into the regional
footprint.
CONSIDERATION OF JOINT RESOLUTION; PERMIT APPLICATION FOR BERRY
HILL INDUSTRIAL PARK
Motion was made by Mr. Harville, seconded by Mr. Snead, to approve Resolution
2015-06-05, in support for the “Commonsense Permitting For Job Creation Act”, which was
unanimously approved by the Board.
Motion was made by Councilman Vogler, seconded by Councilman Jones, to approve
Resolution 2015-06-20, in support for the “Commonsense Permitting For Job Creation Act”,
which was unanimously approved by City Council.

Motion was made by Mr. Harville, seconded by Mr. Snead, to adjourn the meeting which
was unanimously approved by the Board. The Board meeting adjourned at 9:14pm.
