REGULAR MEETING
January 14, 2014
MINUTES
VIRGINIA: The Pittsylvania County Board of Zoning Appeals met on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, in the General
District Courtroom, Edwin R. Shields Courthouse Addirion, Chatham, Virginia. Mr. Talbott called the meeting to
order at appro�nately 7:00 p.m. The Board observed a few moments of silence. Mr. Shelton called the roll.

APPOINTMENT OF CHAIRMAN AND VICE CHAIRMAN FOR THE YEAR 2014
Upon motion of NIr. Estes, seconded by Mr. Yeaman, NIr. Talbott was elected Chairinan for the year 2014 and Mr.
Easley was elected Vice Chairman. Mr. Yeaman stated Mr. Talbott and Mr. Easley had done such a good job in the
previous years he felt they should be re-elected. The Board agreed and motion passed unanimous.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
By motion of Mr. Estes, seconded by Mrs. Glass, and by unanunous vote the Minutes of the December 10, 2013,
meeting were approved as presented.
Old Business
There was no old business.
New Business
Mr. Shelton reported on the case for the February 2014 Cycle.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
There was no Chairman's report.
THE ZONING PRECEPTS WERE READ BY Mr. Talbott to OPEN THE PUBLIC HEARING at
appro�mately 7:04 p.m.
Case S-1, John & Sara Preston S-14-001— Mr. Talbott opened the public hearing at approximately 7:05 p.m. Mr.
Shelton, Director of Code Compliance/Zoning Administrator, reported John and Sara Preston had petitioned for a
Special Use Permit on 0.55 acre, located on State Road 882/West Sunrise Drive, in the Tunstall Election District for

sale and placement of a single-wide mobile home on the property. He further stated the Planning Commission, with
opposition, recommended denying the petitioners' request. Mr. Shelton also mentioned the location of another
property owner's parcel in relation to this property. Mr. Preston stated he had attempted to sell the property through
a realtor but had been unable to do so. He then stated someone had approached him about purchasing the property
but the purchaser wanted to place a single-wide on the properry. There was no opposition to the petition. Mr.
Talbott closed the public hearing at appro�mately 7:07 p.m. The Board discussed the petition as the Cominittee of
the Whole and determined there were no adverse effects. The Board also discussed the number of mobile homes in
the area. Upon motion of Mr. Estes, seconded by Mrs. Glass, the following motion was adopted: Whereas, John C.
Preston and Sara D. Preston have petitioned the Board of Zoning Appeals for a Special Use Permit for sale and
placement of a single-wide mobile home on the property and, Whereas, we find no substantial detriment to adjacent
property, that the character of the zoning district will not be changed thereby, and that such use will be in harmony
with the purpose and intent of the Ordinance, I move the Special Use Permit be granted.
Motion passed unanimous.
This concludes the Special Use case.
The meeting adjourned at approxirriately 7:10 p.m.
