Director of Code Compliance, xeparted that blavis Brooks had peritioned to xezone 5.49 acres, located on State
Road 685/Telegxaph Road, in the Staunton Rivcr fi'lection Distsict from R-1, Residential SuburUan Subdivision
District to A-1, Agricultural District fox a small gTeenhouse. Kenneth Bxooks was pxesent to represent the
petition. He stated he had nothing to add. William H. Reese, Sv, and William R. Franklin spoke in opposition
to the pendon. Their concerns included, but were not limited to, the following: The amount of traffic and
paxking on the adjacent paxcels of land and the reason why the propexry was being xezoned since the pedtionex
alxeady has scvexal structures on her propern� being used as a gceenhouse. Mr. Brooks offered a cebuttal and
stated the gxeenhouse is off the highway and the business was fox seasonal retail sale of cegetables, flowexs, etc.

Planning Commission have been empowered to hear and decide specific applications in

The applicant would like to Tezone foz a kennel ro serve as a No Kill Annnal Shelter for the Anunal Welfaxe
League of Pittsylvania County (AWLOPC). The barns located on the property will serve as the kennel. The
caxetaker of the kennel will reside in the single-wide mobile home located on the propexry, and the large home
located on the propeTq� will serve as a lobby/receprion azea for individuals to be interviewed for the adopuon

WHEREAS, your Petitioner, Kathy Phillips Hazelwood, respectfully files this petition
pursuant to Sections 35-806 and 35-807 of the Pittsylvania County Zoning Ordinance and
in accordance with the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, and would respectfully show
the following:
(1) The Petitioner is the owner of the above-referenced parcel of land, or
is filing with the owner's consent.
(2) The proper[y is presently zoned under the provisions of the
PittsylvaniaCounty Zoning Ordinance as R-1, Residential Suburban
Subdivision District.
(3) Your petitioner now desires to have the property rezoned to B-2, Business

Sec. 35-817. POSTING OF PROPERTI' - PLANNING COMMISSION HEARING-
At lcast fourteen (14) day�s preceding the Cotmnission's public heaxing on a zoning map amendment, thexe shall be
erected on the pxoperty proposed to be Tezoned, a sign ox sig,ns provided by the Z.oning Adininistcatox indicating the
date, time, and place of the public heaxing. The sign shall be exected within ten (10) feet of whatevex boundary line of
such land abuts a public road and shall be so placed as to be cleaxly visible from the road with the bottom of the sign
not less than two and one-half (2 1/2) feet above the ground. If more than one (1) such xoad abuts the properry,
then a sign shall be exected in the same mannec as above fox each such abutting xoad. If no public road abuts
thereon, then signs shall be exected in the samc manner as above on at least two (2) boundaries of the property
abutting land not owned by the applicant.
Sec. 35-818, POSTING OF PROPERTY - BOARD OF SUPERVISORS HEARING-
When a public heaxing has been scheduled before the Board of Supervisors for a Zoning Map amendment, thexe
shall be erected, at least fouxteen (14) days pxeceding such hearing, a sign ox signs provided by the 'Loning
.�dministsatox indicating the date, time and place of the public hearing. Such sign ox signs shall be exected in the
same manner as ptescribed in Section 35-817 above.
Sec. 25-819. MAINTENANCE AND REMOVAL OF SIGNS.
Any sign exected in compliance with this secdon shall be maintained at all times by the applicant up to the time of the
heaxing and it shall be the dury of the applicant at the heaxings to pxove by affidavit that he has fully complied with
the requirements of this section and has continuously maintained the sign ox signs up to the time of the hearing. It
shall be unlawful for any pexson, except the applicant or the 7.oning Adxrunistrator or an authouzed agent of eithex,
to xemove or tamper with any sign furnished during the period it is Tequiced to be maintained undex this Secrion. All
signs erected undex this Secdon shall be removed by the applicant with fourteen (]4) days following the public

At least fourteen (14) days preceding the Comxnission's public heacing on a zoning map amendment, thexe shall be
erected on the pxoperty pTOposed to be xezoned, a sign or signs pmvided by� the Zoning Adiiiinistxator indicating the
date, time, and place of the public hearing. The sign shall be exected wit}un ten (10) feet of whatever boundary line of
such land abuts a public xoad and shall be so placed as to be cleaxly visible fxom the xoad with the bottom of the sign
not less than two and one-half (2 1/2) feet above the ground. If mare than one (1) such road abuts the pxoperty,
then a sign shall be erected in the same mannex as above for each such abutting xoad. If no public xoad abuts
thereon, then signs shall be exected in the samc mannex as above on at least two (2) boundaries of the property
abutting land not owned by the applicant.
Sec. 35-818, POSTING OF PROPERTY - BOARD OF SUPERVISORS HEARING-
When a public heacing has Ucen scheduled before the Boaxd of Supervisoxs for a'Loning Map amendment, there
shall be exected, at least fouxteen (14) days preceding such heazing, a sign ox signs provided bv the Zorung
Administratox indicating the date, tune and place of the public hearing. Such sign or signs shall be erected in the
same manner as pxescxibed in Section 35-817 above.
Sec. 25-819. MAINTENANCE AND REMOVAL OF SIGNS.
Any sign exected in compliance with this secrion shall be maintained at all tunes by the applicant up to the time of the
hearing and it shall be the duty of the applicant at the hearings to prove by affidavit that he has fully complied with
the xequ�ements of this secrion and has conunuously maintained the sign ox signs up to the rime of the heaxing. It
shall be unlawful fox any person, except the applicant or the Zoning Adniinistrator or an authorized agent of either,
to remove ox tampeT with any� sign Euxnished during the period it is requ�ed to be maintained undex this Secuon. All
signs erected undeT this Section shall be removed by the applicant with fouxteen (14) days following the public
hearing foT which it was exected.

At least fourteen (14) days preceding the Commission's public hearing on a zoning map amendment, theTe shall be
erected on the property proposed to be rezoned, a sign or signs pxovided by the Zoning Admuustxator indicating the
date, time, and place of the public hearing. Thc sign shall be erecred within ten (10) feet of whatever boundary line of
such land abuts a public xoad and shall be so placed as to be dearly visible from the xoad with the bottom of the sign
not less than two and one-half (2 1/2) feet above the ground. If more than one (1) such road abuts the property,
then a sign shall be erected in the same manner as above for each such abutting road. If no public xoad abuts
thereon, then signs shall be erected in the same manner as above on at least tcvo (2) boundaxies of the pxopexty
abutting land not owned by the applicant.

shall be unlawful fot any pexson, except the applicant ar the Zoning 1ldiniiiistrator or an authorized agent of eithec,
to iemove ox tampex with any sign fumished during the period it is required to be maintained undeT this Section. All

Pittsylvania County Zoning Ordinance and in accordance with the Code of Vir i�
1950, as amended, and would respectfully show the following:
(1) The Petitioners aze the owners of the above-referenced parcel of
land, or are filing with the owner's consent.
(2) The property is presently zoned under the provisions of the Pittsylvania
County Zoning Ordinance as R-1, Residential Suburban Subdivision
District.
(3) Your petitioners now desire to have the property rezoned to A-1,
Agricultural District to subdivide a lot for their niece.
WHEREFORE, your Petitioners respectfully request that the Zoning Ordinance of
Pittsylvania County be amended and that the above-referenced parcel oF land be rezoned
as set out in Number 3.

When a public hearing has been scheduled before the Boacd of Supervisoxs for a"T..oning Map amendment, thexe

Administsatox indicating the date, time and place of the public hearing. Such sign ar signs shall be exected in the
same manner as pxescribed in Section 35-817 above.
Sec. 25-819. MAINTENANCE AND REMOVAL OF SIGNS.
Any sign exected in compliance with this section shall be maintained at all times by the applicant up to the time of the
hearing and it shall be the duty of the applicant at the heaxings to pxove by affidavit that he has fully complied with
the requirements of this secdon and has continuously maintained the sign ox signs up to the dme of the hearing. It
shall be unlawful fox any person, except the applicant ox the Zoning Adriiinistsator or an authorized agent of either,
to remove or tamper with any sign furnished during the period it is xequ�ed to be maintained undeT this Section. All
signs exected under this Secdon shall be xemoved by the applicant with fourteen (14) days following the public
hearing for which it was erected.

Sec. 35-817. POSTING OF PROPERTY - PLANNING COMMISSION HEARING-
At least fourteen (14) days pxeceding the Comtnission's public hearing on a zoning map amendment, there shall be
ecected on the propexty proposed to be rezoned, a sign oc signs pxovided by the Zoning Adxninistxator indicating the
date, time, and place of the public hearing. The sign shall be emcted within ten (10) feet of whatever boundary line of
such land abuts a public xoad and shall be so placed as to be cleaxly visible from the xoad with the bottom of the sign
not less than two and one-half (2 1/2) feet above the ground. If moce than one (1) such road abuts the pTOperty,
then a sign shall be exected in the same manner as above for each such abutting xoad. If no public road abuts
thereon, then signs shall be erected in the same manner as above on at least two (2) Uoundaries of the property
abutting land not owned by the applicant.
