09-24-2012 Work Session - BOS-VDOTAdjourned Meeting September 24, 2012 Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors Tuesday, September 24, 2012 Work Session with the Virginia Department of Transportation VIRGINIA: A Work Session of the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors and the Virginia Department of Transportation was held on Monday, September 24, 2012 in the General District Courtroom of the Edwin R. Shields Addition in Chatham, Virginia. Tim R. Barber, Chairman, called the meeting to order at 7:05p.m. The following members were present: Tim Barber Tunstall District James Snead Dan River District Coy E. Harville Westover District Jessie L. Barksdale Banister District Jerry A. Hagerman Callands-Gretna District Brenda H. Bowman Chatham-Blairs District Marshall Ecker Staunton River District Mr. William D. Sleeper, County Administrator, Mr. J. Vaden Hunt, County Attorney, Mr. Greg L. Sides, Assistant County Administrator for Planning and Development, Mr. Odie Shelton, Jr., and Ms. Rebecca Flippen, Deputy Clerk to the Board, were also present. Mr. Randy Hamilton, of the Lynchburg Office, Mr. Kenneth Martin, Residency Maintenance Manager for Halifax/Pittsylvania Counties, Gerry Harter, Traffic Engineer, and Jay Craddock, Asst. Residency Engineer from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) were also present. Mr. Barber led the Pledge of Allegiance. Approval of Agenda Motion was made by Mr. Snead, seconded by Mr. Harville, to approve the agenda which was unanimously approved by the Board. Hearing of the Citizens No one signed up to speak New Business Mr. Gerry Harter, presented a PowerPoint Presentation that covered Traffic Control Devices (TCDs) (signs, signals, markings and other devices used to regulate, warn or guide traffic on any road open to public travel), Signal/Stop Warrants, Speed Limits, Specialty Signs (Example: Watch for Children), and Truck Route Restrictions. Mr. Harter’s presentation summarized what VDOT takes into account and is required when determining whether a TCD is warranted. No action was taken by the Board of Supervisors at this meeting Adjournment Motion was made by Mr. Ecker, seconded by Mr. Snead to adjourn the meeting, which was unanimously approved by the Board. The meeting adjourned at 8:53pm.
